One voice, One night, One film…that brings together communities all over North America? What if next year we could do this ALL OVER THE WORLD!!! IMAGINE THAT!

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2010

Join me this International Women’s Day and join the thousands of people banning together to unite, empower and support women globally. Join CARE Canada on March 4, 2010 for Half the Sky LIVE, a movie event that will inspire, motivate, and mobilize a movement to help women and girls around the world turn oppression into opportunity! Its a moment in time where, we as women, men and children stand up and rise about the confines of inequality and injustice. To approach the call to act, to do so compassionately and invent new ways of striving to live our best lives and celebrate all the we have accomplished.

Half the Sky LIVE is inspired by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists Nicholas Kristof’s and Sheryl WuDunn’s New York Times bestseller, “Half the Sky,” which follows the stories of extraordinary women around the world as they struggle to overcome oppression. Kristof and WuDunn focus on three major problems facing women – sex trafficking, maternal mortality and violence against women.

They argue that empowering women is the key to alleviating poverty and uplifting communities in developing countries. Joining CARE and the authors for the discussion on these issues are Marisa Tomei, Maria Bellow, Sarah Duchess of York, and other artists and experts. Their message will be spread across North America to stimulate thought and debate on the issue of women and girls’ empowerment worldwide.

The first International Women’s Day (IWD) was held in 1911, which exceeded all expectations and brought about the right to vote and the start of the journey of women celebrating their unique qualities and essence in the world. Today, women celebrate this day, not through dipicting the pornography of the conflict, famine, injustice and still, to this day plagues many countires today – but to bring to light the hope, the opportunity and the power behind each woman. At the fundamental roots this is what IWD is all about, and what this film signifys for all of us, past and present all those who have risen above adversity and forged ahead through turbulent waters and what YOU can do to support and connect with women in developing countries who have that same power that you and I share.

Please join CARE Canada for this one-night only event! Help us spread the word of women and girls issues in advance of International Women’s Day, and learn how you can make a difference! ABOUT CARE CARE is Canada’s global force dedicated to defending dignity and fighting poverty by empowering the most vulnerable, yet greatest agents of change, women and girls.

I will be Co-hosting this event and will be speaking on behalf of CARE Canada, Half the Sky Live and IWD…don’t miss out – THIS WILL BE EPIC!
